Mission & actions
Inland Navigation Europe has as mission to contribute to long-term strategies for sustainable transportation by moving more goods by water in EU regions and cities with accessible and navigable rivers and canals. INE does this by sharing best practice, active policy advocacy and promotion.

- A dedicated EU waterway transport action plan: Naiades 2006-2013
- A Naiades II follow-up programme 2014-2020 in the pipeline
- All international network in core network of trans-European networks (TEN-T)
- All main waterway projects in priority infrastructure corridors of TEN-T
- Increased TEN-T co-financing for waterway bottlenecks (30%) and cross-border projects (40%)
- Harmonised cross-border RIS deployment via framework directive
- EU co-financing budget for RIS deployment and as of 2014 increased co-financing up to 50%
- Better access to EU Marco Polo programme for inland shipping with lower threshold
- Low-sulphur fuel for waterway vessels
