European Commission evaluates white paper on transport of 2001
In a mid term review, the EC already made an overall balance of its transport policy proposed in the white paper of 2001 and the actions involved. The major objectives of rebalancing the transport system and relieving congestion remain in place, but the Commission opts for a more pragmatic toolbox to reach this. By opting for measures which focus on efficiency, innovation, logistics mastering energy and greening transport, the EC hopes to tap the full potential of each mode in order to attain competitive and sustainable mobility. With regard to waterways, the NAIADES action plan to promote inland shipping is entirely integrated in the new EU transport policy with a new communication on the "Future of Transport" which maps the challenges of transportation policy towards 2030-2050.
